Treatment/neutralisation of acid sulfate soils involves the physical incorporation of neutralising/alkaline materials into the soil.
Agricultural lime is the best choice for acid sulfate soil application. Thoroughly mixing the appropriate amount and type of lime into disturbed acid sulfate soils will neutralise any acid produced.
Lime has an alkaline pH and buffers any acid produced whilst raising the soil pH to acceptable levels.
The amount of neutralising agent required depends on soil and water test results and the neutralising capacity of the lime source. Materials that can be used include cardbide lime, quicklime, sodium bicarbonate, dolomite, and some industry by-products.
REGYP sells lime products out of Sydney and Brisbane including blends.

Avoidance is the most preferred management strategy for acid sulphate soils, and should be considered at all sites.
Acid sulfate soils are inert when left in waterlogged, undisturbed conditions. Avoidance is often the most environmentally responsible and cheapest option.

Beneficial uses of treated CSG water can include:
• aquaculture and human consumption of aquatic foods
• coal washing
• dust suppression
• industrial use
• irrigation
• livestock watering
Treatment technologies CSG water varies widely in its water quality characteristics and beneficial use of the resource is unlikely without some form of treatment (an active process) or amendment (simple chemical addition, for example the addition of sulphuric acid or gypsum)
The following criteria apply to the general approval for beneficial use of CSG water for irrigation purposes:
• irrigation shall not be applied to Good Quality Agricultural Land:
• irrigation shall not be applied to land where the standing water table of an aquifer that is in productive use is less than 30 m from the ground surface anywhere within the planned irrigation area;
• the maximum electrical conductivity (EC) shall not exceed 3,000 μS/cm;
• the maximum sodium adsorption ratio (SAR) shall not exceed 8;
• the maximum bicarbonate ion concentration shall not exceed 100 mg/L;
• the maximum fluoride concentration shall not exceed 1 mg/L;
• irrigation techniques shall only include drip, centre pivot or lateral move irrigation machines fitted with low energy precision application systems;
• flood or related surface irrigation is specifically excluded;
• the annual water application rate shall not exceed the water deficit (calculated on a daily basis);
• deep drainage, due to irrigation, shall not exceed 15% of the rate of irrigation water applied to the surface;
• irrigation shall not be undertaken in circumstances where soil erosion is likely to occur; and
• irrigation shall not be undertaken at a rate that results in water run-off to permanent water courses.
CSG water can be treated with gypsum to lower the Sodium Absorption Rate (SAR) and this can be done to CSG water that has or hasn’t been processed through a desalination plant.

With Boral shares trading around book value and building markets in Oz and the US stagnant, rumours are out that a break-up of Boral could help rationalise oversupplied brick and plasterboard markets.
Recent industry figures have found that construction activity has fallen to a level not seen since the global financial crisis.

REGYP becomes a member of the Green Building Council of Australia (GBCA).
REGYP helps construction projects achieve higher GBCA Green Star ratings through recycling the waste plasterboard from projects.
Green Star is a comprehensive, national, voluntary environmental rating system that evaluates the environmental design and construction of buildings. With more than 4 million square metres of Green Star-certified space around Australia, and a further 8 million square metres of Green Star-registered space, Green Star has transformed Australia’s property and construction market.

REGYP offers an alternative bedding product for animals from its plasterboard recycling operations.
Bedding from organic materials such as sawdust, shavings, straw etc are typically used by the dairy industry. These bedding materials support conditions (moisture, nutrients, and rich pH) which are more ideal for pathogenic growth than inorganic (mined gypsum) bedding.
Carbon and other nutrients essential for bacterial growth can be more available in organic bedding than in mined gypsum bedding. Dry matter content of most organic material is often less than 70% versus greater than 90% for gypsum bedding. Also drier bedding can result in fewer insects and also provide slip resistance and an odor free area.
The benefits of recycled gypsum bedding?
- Recycled gypsum is more absorbent than sawdust or shavings,
- Recycled gypsum can reduce cell counts and Mastitis problems,
- Recycled gypsum can reduce foot health problems,
- Non Caustic and safe. Does not burn or cause dried skin or feet like some lime products,
- The recycled gypsum does not contain harmful chemicals and heavy metals,
- Increases the nutrient and element value in your manure,
- Can reduce your fertilizer requirement.
A chemical reaction between gypsum and ammonia, in urine ties up the ammonia in the form of ammonium sulfate. Odor is reduced and the environment in the barn is improved. The retained ammonia increases the natural nitrogen in the manure.
